Meet Joseph

My son, Joseph, was referred to Magic Moments for his life-altering condition. He was abused by his father at the age of 2.5 years old. The beginning diagnosis was Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). From there we have seizures, beginning stages of scoliosis, the right side of his body is in paralysis, he is partially blind in his left eye, and partially deaf in his left ear. He's had numerous surgeries and doctor visits. Some great doctors and specialists have helped us.

In August of 2017, Joseph was surprised with a shopping spree from Magic Moments. He was so excited. I remember him going through the stores in the Galleria with the biggest smile on his face. Magic Moments was able to bring joy during a time that was unexpected with many doctor visits.

The following year we were able to attend Magic Moments Family Camp. We had never heard of this, but were extremely excited. Joseph, my youngest, and myself were able to attend. Just to be able to have an enjoyable weekend and to sit and connect with other parents was so special.

Magic Moments has impacted our lives with the kindness and love they have shown our family. I have never met another staff that just loves you and treats you like family like they do. I have seen the staff remember many names and families, no matter how many applications come through the organization every month. They give you the comfort of family, and not just because you received a magic moment. The genuine smiles and “hey, how are you really doing,” shows the compassion, empathy, and authenticity of the people behind the scenes.

Since Joseph’s Magic Moment, he has had some great life moments. He was selected to attend the Special Olympics World Games, Abu Dhabi, in 2019. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity. He represented the Equestrian team for the U.S.A. He brought back 1 gold and 2 bronze medals. Joseph graduated high school in May 2019. In 2021, Joseph participated in the Ability Sports Network program at Huntingdon College until he aged out. We are currently working on life skills with Joseph. While in high school, he mentioned he wanted to be a chef. He’s making great strides now. He can actually scramble eggs by himself on the stove. His attention span in the kitchen is growing from where we started.

Magic Moments, thank you for the last 40 years of excellency you have provided to many families. Thank you for the blood, sweat, and tears of the behind the scenes you do for many families. Thank you for the many sacrifices you have to make just within your households. Thank you for your dedication to show genuine love and compassion to many. Thank you for just having the authentic hearts of love. I pray for many more years of blessings for Magic Moments. I pray that in years to come, other families will get to experience the joy of becoming part of a family that offers comfort through some of the rough and painful times in their lives.
