In 2009 I was able to meet my favorite baseball player; Atlanta Braves 3rd baseman Chipper Jones. He came out of the locker room and met me and my family. He signed my hat and a baseball for me and took pictures. I also got to stay and watch the baseball game. It was awesome! We also got tickets to Botanical Gardens, Coca Cola company and the Aquarium. Me and my family had a great time. I really want to meet Chipper again so he can see how much taller I am now. Maybe I have caught up with him. I watch all of their games!! I would have never got to meet him if it wasn't for Magic Moments.
I am 28 years old now and have an intellectual disability. I am also hearing impaired and have speech dyspraxia which makes it hard for people to understand me sometimes. I've had speech therapy, physical therapy and occupational therapy since I was about 18 months old. I have trouble doing some things, especially with my hands. I had to go to a special feeding clinic when I was young to learn to chew my foods. I don’t have any trouble with that now and I love to eat. I went to doctors from Mobile to Birmingham and even to Georgia. I love life, people, church, Jesus, singing, baseball and riding my golf cart. I went to a 2 year special program at South Alabama college to learn some independent living and job skills. I have had several jobs through the years, but I am now looking for a new job. I sing at church and sing in a men’s gospel group. We go to different churches, nursing homes and Mission of Hope to sing. I am also a part of the Lion's Club in Satsuma, AL. We do volunteer work in the community and help people. We just built someone a wheelchair ramp at their home.
I love Magic Moments and Family Camp. I have made so many special friends over the years of going to camp. I started as a camper with my family. Once I got too old to be a camper, my mom and I go back every year now to volunteer as counselors. I love it and like to go back every year to see all my friends there.
